Fire losses to U.S. buildings could nearly triple by 2060 without new protections

A CIRES-led Nature Communications study projects that with moderate climate mitigation and no new fire adaptations, U.S. structural fire losses would nearly triple by 2060, with up to 449,100 buildings damaged or destroyed. It finds the largest risk increase in the central U.S. and highest risk in vulnerable western communities.
