This policy applies to the United-States-only Public Beta. It explains what people may post on Comentr and how the current moderation system enforces those rules. It supplements the User Terms of Service.

1. Rule hierarchy

Comentr has two rule layers:

  1. System Rules apply across the platform and cannot be weakened by a community. A System Rule violation can affect Global Standing or lead to a platform sanction.
  2. Community Rules are created for an individual community and apply there. They may be stricter than System Rules but may not contradict them. A Community Rule violation can affect Local Standing and access in that community.

The current sanction flow always records a reason code and may include explanatory text. A rule identifier is recorded when the action is tied to a specific rule; the sanction path does not currently require one for every action.

2. System Rules

The following conduct is prohibited platform-wide:

2.1. Illegal or dangerous content

Do not post content that violates applicable United States federal, state, or local law, including child sexual abuse material, criminal threats, material that facilitates terrorism, or content that meaningfully facilitates illegal activity.

2.2. Spam, malware, and deception

Do not distribute automated spam, malware, phishing, or commercially deceptive content. Do not use repetitive bulk posting to disrupt a community.

2.3. Harassment, brigading, and doxxing

Do not target a person with sustained abuse, coordinate harassment or brigading, or publish private identifying information without consent.

2.4. Impersonation

Do not impersonate another user, moderator, administrator, or organization. Parody or satire must be readily identifiable as such.

2.5. Manipulation and evasion

Do not use multiple accounts or coordinated inauthentic activity to manipulate votes, Standing, reports, or other platform systems. Do not evade a suspension, ban, protective control, or rate limit.

2.6. Report abuse

Do not file reports to harass another person or flood the moderation queue. Comentr uses an internal Reporter Reliability Score to prioritize reports; repeated false or abusive reports may be de-weighted.

3. Community Rules

Review a community's rules before participating. Community owners and moderators may adopt subject-matter and format rules—for example, requiring spoiler labels or excluding off-topic posts—provided those rules do not weaken the System Rules. Community enforcement does not by itself affect Global Standing unless the conduct also violates a System Rule.

4. Reporting

Use the report control attached to content or an account to identify the rule you believe was violated. Community moderators review community violations; platform administrators handle platform-wide violations. Reporter identity and internal reliability signals are not displayed in the public moderation log.

5. Enforcement

Comentr uses graduated enforcement:

  • An authorized moderator may warn, suspend, or apply a direct permanent user ban without a sanction case.
  • When the separate sanction-case path is used, the current default quorum is three approvals for tenant- or platform-scoped cases and two approvals for community- or forum-scoped cases.
  • Sanction-case votes are de-duplicated by voter. An eligible proposing moderator may cast one approval; the current path has no single-approver top-tier override.

The anonymous public surface is a sanitized, community-scoped moderation log containing display-safe action facts for one community. Raw user IDs, reporter identities, IP addresses, and internal notes are excluded. Actor- and target-oriented records, and target-filtered community history, are moderator-only records. It is therefore inaccurate to describe every moderation action or record as public.

6. Appeals

The current moderation-history experience marks a user-targeted action as appeal-eligible when it is fewer than 90 days old and has no recorded appeal. Appeal submission verifies that the action targeted the appellant and limits each user to five appeals that are open or under review at one time. Content-targeted actions are not self-appealable in the current version. Submitted appeals enter a dedicated moderation queue, where the resolving moderator and outcome are recorded.

7. Official automated content

Comentr's Curator service may create linked-article threads under the reserved @curator handle. Those threads carry an official automation-disclosure badge and are service-created content, not posts by an operator acting under a personal identity. They remain subject to the same System Rules and Community Rules as other content.

The active reviewed catalog currently contains three qualified trusted sources, but Curator is intentionally stopped at zero replicas and is absent from the serving rollout registry while pending automatic work is reconciled into operator review and qualification evidence is assembled. Curator therefore does not currently publish automatically. Resuming automatic publication requires an owner-authorized nonzero deployment and restoration of its rollout registry entry. Granting automatic authority to any additional source also requires a separately reviewed catalog release with that source's qualification included in its immutable manifest.

8. Content ownership and removal

You retain ownership of content you create and grant the operational license described in the Terms. You may delete individual content through available product controls. When terminal account erasure occurs after the recovery window, authored threads and comments are hard-removed; they are not kept publicly under a generic deleted-user identity.

The released Terms will identify the verified route for copyright notices and, if applicable, the verified designated agent. This draft deliberately makes no designated-agent claim. See the DMCA DESIGNATED AGENT PENDING VERIFICATION gate in the Terms.

10. Changes

A substantive change to this policy creates a new immutable policy-bundle version and effective date. A released version is never edited in place or reused for materially different terms.
