Volcanic eruptions in the tropics are a major factor in Earth's thermostat

New research using a NASA climate model finds no clear evidence that extratropical volcanic eruptions cool the Northern Hemisphere far more than tropical ones, putting any enhancement at roughly double rather than the 7.5 times reported in earlier work. The authors also report shorter aerosol lifetimes for extratropical eruptions.
