Kyushu University researchers found that inserting an ultrathin iridium manganese layer between a YIG magnetic insulator and platinum boosts both the spin Seebeck effect and spin Hall magnetoresistance. A 0.3 nm layer gave the strongest responses, which could inform ultralow-power, battery-free devices.
