OpenAI has launched a Grid Protectors Program under which its future data centers will reduce electricity use when local grids are strained. The pilot is a planned 3.2GW campus in Effingham County, Georgia, where a 25-year deal lets Georgia Power cut up to 1,000MW at busy times.
