NYU Langone researchers tested transcranial ultrasound stimulation, aimed at a deep brain region called the globus pallidus interna, in 10 patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. A single 10-minute session lowered delusion scores by an average of 1.2 points on a 7-point scale, while a sham treatment produced no change; side effects were mild and brief.
