In 2011 the National Book Awards mixed up Lauren Myracle's "Shine" with a similarly-named novel, then asked her to withdraw after a week of chaos. In 2012 the Pulitzer board gave the fiction prize to no one at all, despite jurors supposedly plowing through 300 novels apiece.
