A half-carved shale ring, abandoned mid-manufacture at a Glasgow churchyard, is rewriting the story of Govan Old as a royal jewellery workshop rather than just a burial ground. The dark stone likely stood in for pricier jet, dressing up elite fashion in the Kingdom of Strathclyde.

A trench at Loburg Castle just found proof the site is far older than its 13th-century keep: comb-marked pottery and a rampart from the ninth and tenth centuries, buried under an eight-metre ditch and later paved over entirely in the 12th century.
