CSU researchers plan to deploy an AI-assisted hail forecasting system in 2027, pairing a specialized NVIDIA model called Hail-StormScope with an existing machine-learning tool to extend storm warnings by hours or possibly days. The NSF-funded project also uses volunteer weather observers and post-storm drones to improve hail risk assessment.
