COSI, UC Berkeley's newest space telescope, was built at the campus's Space Sciences Laboratory with NASA funding and is slated to launch into Earth orbit next year. Led by John Tomsick, the mission is designed to map gamma rays in the Milky Way Galaxy to study supernova debris and the origin of chemical elements.
