Imagine if the government easily could track your every movement for whatever reason it chooses. That’s certainly not the scenario the founders had in mind when they enshrined privacy, protection from unwarranted government intrusion, within the 4th Amendment.

But if you, like just about everyone, carry a cellphone, you don’t have to imagine that the government easily can follow you around. It can, by using data from cell towers, the ubiquitous infrastructure of the digital communications age.
