The Bay Area’s cities, parks and byways brim with possibilities for outdoor fun. Here are three hiking possibilities to explore.

Mount Diablo has always been a wonderful spot for solo or family hikes — and outings with Save Mount Diablo, which runs guided hikes and the wildly popular tarantula walk. Now it’s expanding its free Discover Diablo offerings, including interpretive family walks, wildflower hikes and guided hikes, some in areas of the park not normally open. The new lineup includes climbing and mountain biking — and two tarantula walks. Reservations are a must.
