PALO ALTO — A man was hit and killed by a Caltrain in Palo Alto on Thursday afternoon, marking the commuter rail line’s first fatality of the year, authorities said.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Transit Bureau is investigating the incident, said Bartholomew, adding that it was too early to tell if the death was intentional or accidental.
