BERKELEY — UC Berkeley mostly avoided a chaotic clash Wednesday, weathering expected protests on campus in opposition to an anti-immigration speaking engagement by right-wing pundit Ann Coulter.

Campus police reported that multiple masked protesters were arrested, and one person was carted off of campus by medics, though it was unclear what his medical emergency was. Calls to a UC Berkeley police spokesperson were not immediately returned Thursday morning.
