A Napa Valley winemaker was sentenced to five months in prison — the longest term yet in the national college admissions scandal — for agreeing to pay $300,000 to help one of his daughters cheat her way into the University of Southern California.

Agustin F. Huneeus, 53, was the first Bay Area parent and fifth overall to be sentenced in the scheme. He pleaded guilty to fraud charges in May for paying bribes to fix a daughter’s SAT answers and flag her for admission to USC as a competitive water polo player.
