Firefighters, exhausted Bay Area residents and meteorologists were all nervously watching the skies Sunday, as another round of unsettled weather, lightning and wind threatened to create more havoc as early as the afternoon.

The National Weather Service was predicting another round of scattered thunderstorms beginning as early as Sunday afternoon, with a red flag warning lasting through 5 p.m. Monday. Dry lightning, possible sparking new fires, and strong winds would pose another huge challenge to firefighters battling the three large complex fires burning hundreds of thousands of acres around the Bay Area.
