OAKLAND — California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed the driver of a vehicle and wounded a passenger on the city’s east side late Saturday night, authorities said.

Authorities said a male driver was killed and his female passenger wounded after they were both shot about 10:46 p.m. in the 9600 block of Cherry Street, a primarily residential area. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
