The company that recently took over Sears and Kmart announced Thursday that three Bay Area stores will be eliminated when it closes 96 of them early next year.

Transformco announced that it will close 51 Kmart stores and 46 Sears stores nationwide, beginning in February 2020. Both chains had been sold after seeking bankruptcy protection.
